Free text messaging online means writing an SMS in a web page and having it delivered to a phone number as a normal text message. The recipient does not need any app and is never charged. It is handy when your phone is charging, you are travelling without a local SIM, or you would simply rather type on a keyboard.
What you need
- A modern browser on a computer, tablet or phone.
- A Globfone account with credibility level 2/3. You reach it by completing your profile and verifying your own phone number with a short code. Card verification is only needed for calls.
- A balance of free Credits. Globfone gives small mini-boost Credits and you can request another Mini-Boost about every 24 hours by watching a short ad.
How to send the message
- Open the SMS tool and sign in.
- Search for the destination country. The prefix is added for you, so type the recipient's number without the country code.
- Write your message. A counter shows the number of characters and the encoding in use.
- Press Send. Globfone checks your balance, the destination and its security rules, then forwards the message to its SMS providers.
The screen then tells you whether the request was accepted and how many free messages remain.
What affects delivery
Reliable, fully verified SMS routes are expensive, so the free service sometimes uses lower-cost routes. Messages can arrive late, rarely not at all, and in a small share of cases appear as "Flash SMS" that shows briefly on the screen instead of in the inbox. If you know a message arrived, say so in the feedback prompt; it helps identify weak providers. We explain more in the FAQ and in message length and delivery explained.
Tips for better results
- Double-check the country and number before sending.
- Keep the text short and plain. Emoji and special characters switch the encoding and shorten the limit.
- Do not count on replies reaching you. Include another way to contact you in the message if you need an answer.
- Use it for personal, legitimate messages. Spam leads to blocking.
