A free online call is a phone call that starts in your browser and ends on an ordinary mobile or landline number. There is nothing to install: the browser captures your voice, sends it over the internet and a calling provider connects it to the phone network. Globfone's free WebPhone works this way, and so do most modern browser calling tools.
What you need before you call
- A current browser. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all support WebRTC, the technology that carries voice in the browser.
- A microphone and speakers or a headset. The browser will ask for permission the first time; choose "Allow", otherwise the call cannot start.
- A stable connection. Broadband or good Wi-Fi is best. Voice needs little bandwidth, but it needs steady bandwidth.
- A verified Globfone account. Free calling requires credibility level 3/3, which you reach by completing your profile, verifying your phone number and verifying a payment card. The card check costs nothing and the card is handled by Stripe, not stored by Globfone.
How the "free" part works
The person you call pays nothing. Globfone covers the cost of the call from small amounts of Credits that are paid for by sponsors and advertising. You receive a small free Credits balance and can request a top-up roughly every 24 hours by watching a short ad (Mini-Boost). How far your Credits go depends on the destination: some destinations are cheap, while mobile numbers in other countries can use up your Credits in a short call.
That is why free calls are best for short, useful conversations: confirming arrival, passing on a message, calling a relative for a few minutes. For long or frequent calls, Globfone Premium is prepaid and has no ads or daily limits.
Place your first call
- Sign in and open the calling tool.
- Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Pick the country from the list and type the phone number the way the tool asks, normally without the leading zero.
- Press the call button and wait for the status to change to "in call".
- Use the red hang-up button when you are done.
If the audio is poor
- Use a headset. It removes echo, which is the most common complaint.
- Close video streaming and large downloads on the same network.
- Check that the right microphone and speaker are selected in the browser and the operating system.
- Disable ad blockers and strict firewalls for the Globfone page if the call will not connect.

Frequently asked questions
Does the person I call pay anything?
No. The cost is covered by your free Credits.
Which countries can I call?
The country list in the tool shows the destinations currently supported. Coverage changes; see Globfone coverage.
Why does the call end after a short time?
The free Credits balance is small. Some destinations use Credits faster than others, especially mobile numbers. Premium has no time limits, only your balance.
